Looking back on 2018 - The Greaser and the Doll

Looking back on 2018

2018… This year flew by like a whirlwind! A whole lot can happen in 365 days and it’s kind of nice to stop and look back for a second. The past year mostly revolved around our The Greaser and the Doll webshop and it definitely paid off: we were able to make a lot of people very happy, we got to visit awesome events and we managed to expand our collection even more!

Of course we were up to more than that. We had a blast during trips to amazing cities, the Doll sewed up a storm and the Greaser discovered the art of Tiki carving.

As always, we worked our socks off in 2018, but it is so worth it! We’re looking back at last year with great pride and we’re beyond thankful for all the support!

The Greaser' s tattoos - Skull - The Greaser and the Doll

The Greaser’s tattoos: Skull

Tattoos are cool and the Doll and I have gathered quite the collection. We get asked about the meaning of our pieces of art very often. Most of my tattoos don’t have a deep underlying meaning but represent something I like. Every month, we’re telling you the story behind one of our tattoos.

Tattoo 6

Skull tattoos are very often associated with death. It’s a common tattoo representing something you survived, or to honor someone who’s passed. I myself think a skull tattoo is a must-have. (more…)

Looking back on 2016 - The Greaser and the Doll

Looking back on 2016

It seems like only yesterday we were putting together a list of our plans for 2016. The year has flown by and so much has happened! The world is shaking, but we prefer to focus on the positives in life today. Because wow – what a year it’s been.

At the beginning of the year, after celebrating a ridiculous luscious Christmas with our family and friends, we posted our plans for the year to come. It’s fun to look back at this, as this post has truly been our game plan for the year.

As you may know by now; we are planners, we pay a lot of attention to detail and we love it when a plan comes together. And boy, did our plans come together. 2016 has been a year of a lot of hard work, but it paid off! We are incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished and of course beyond thankful for your support! After his Comeback Special in 1968, during which Elvis was joined by his original band members, Elvis asked guitarist James Burton to put together a new band. This band would later be known as the TCB band, Taking Care of Business and played with Elvis from 1969, up until his death in 1977. (more…)

The Greaser and the Doll webshop is live

The Greaser and the Doll webshop live!

Our own store. That has been my dream ever since I was a little Greaser. My parents owned their own store, where I could be found every day after school. Most of the time I spent my time hanging around and looking at all the happy customers as they left the store. Sometimes I’d try to help a customer myself. I also found myself standing outside, admiring the shopping window a lot. My dad created the best displays. His store would win price after price in competitions for the prettiest shopping window in the street. Every time, I was incredibly proud. We have the prettiest store on the block!

This has always been my inspiration. And the dream to open a store of my own always stayed alive. I picked the right classes in college, I now have over 15 years of experience working in specialty shops and I have written several business plans. Just because I enjoyed doing it, or to eventually turn it into something real.

Brainstorm

One night in the summer of 2014, the Doll and I were brainstorming as we do quite often. We talk about anything. This time, we were discussing how cool it would be if someone would start blogging about everything we like: good music, the fifties, cocktails and tiki. If that person would also open a shop and would sell everything we like, that would be even better!

We kept brainstorming until the wee little hours. Which also happens quite often. Before we knew it, we’d penned down complete plans on a piece of paper. We went to bed. When we woke up the next morning, we looked at each other and shouted out “WE SHOULD DO THIS!” (more…)
