This Grapefruit Gin & Tonic is a delicious variation on the original Gin & Tonic. By adding grapefruit, the cocktail gets its pretty colour and an extra bitter bite. (more…)

Munich is one of those places everyone should visit, at least once in their life. The view from the Olympiaturm, a stroll through Nymphenburg Park and a beer at the Hofbräuhaus are obvious musts when you travel to Munich. However, for lovers of Rock ’n Roll, retro, cocktails and Tiki, there are a lot of other really cool things to do in Munich!
This is our top 5! (more…)
If it’s up to us, we’ll celebrate éverything. We love parties! We regularly put together something fun for our friends and gladly pull out all the stops. Last year, we celebrated the Greaser’s birthday with a Rock n Roll beer tasting. This year, we treated him and our friends to a tropical Tiki Cocktail party!
You probably noticed we love Tiki: we have a nice collection of amazing Tiki mugs, we have a palm tree in our living room, our balcony is a Tiki paradise and we regularly overindulge with a great Tiki cocktail. However, you might be surprised this was our very first Tiki party! Wait, what..?! We know…
The reason is quite simple: when we throw a Tiki party, we want to do it right. Which means; with the right music, great outfits and of course with utterly delicious fresh cocktails, made by the Greaser. In order to do this, we needed space. Which is why we awaited the arrival of our beautiful cocktail bar, before putting together our first Tiki party. The Greaser was having a great time behind our new showpiece in the living room, all night. Of course the bar needed a warm welcome: time for a Tiki party!
Mai Tai means “good” in Tahitian, and that’s exactly what the Mai Tai is! It’s my favourite cocktail. Since Victor Bergeron, better known as Trader Vic, invented the Mai Tai in 1944, people have created countless of variations. This version resembles the cocktail you can still order at Trader Vic’s! Bang Bang Bazooka is a Rockabilly band from Eindhoven, Rock City. These guys have been making great music since 1987 and have released four radical albums in the last 30 years! In the original formation, with Bartmann (Peter Pan Speedrock) on bass, BBB released two albums. Later on, Bartmann left the band as PPSR was taking up most of his time.
On the fourth album, “Red Hot & Horny” released in 2013, drummer Marc Burger (Liptease) and bassplayer Eric Haamers (Batmobile) were part of the line-up. Eric recently left BBB, to focus on Batmobile, as they have just released a brand new album (“Brand New Blisters”) for the first time in 20 years. As of now, Jesse van der Heijden (Liptease) is in charge of the bass lines.
Bang Bang Bazooka might just be the best Rockabilly band in Holland, and is without a doubt one of our favourite bands. We love this band so much, we asked them to play at our wedding back in 2011. (more…)
Surprisingly, this well-known Tiki cocktail was not invented in a Tiki bar. The Hurricane was discovered in the 40s at an Irish pub named Pat O’Brien’s in New Orleans. Nowadays, you can still order a Hurricane there, but you can also make it yourself using this recipe! (more…)
I love books on everything fifties or sixties. Especially coffee table books, with beautiful pictures in them. I love books on vintage style, vintage hair, vintage make-up, vintage interior, vintage cars… My vintage-inspired books were the inspiration behind my Style in the Fifties for Women and Style in the Fifties for Men posts. You can never have too many books on the subject, if you’d ask me. I can never get enough inspiration for outfits and tips and tricks for great vintage-inspired hairdos and make-up.
And of course, the Greaser is well aware of this. So he decided to surprise me with another gem of a book for Valentine’s Day! He bought me the ‘Vintage Style Guide’ by Sugarcoated Pictures. This book is filled with easy tutorials for the prefect look: foundation and shaping, eyebrows, wings, shading, lipstick and fabulous hairdos. Every “mini class” is accompanied by gorgeous signature pictures by Sugarcoated, a vintage photo studio in Rotterdam (the Netherlands). (more…)
